About Us

Ever found a really good site on the Internet? No not this one. So what did you do? Tell a few friends? Add it to your favourites, or just make a mental note of it and then forget it? Well that’s what Tenuous Links is all about. It’s a place to store all those sites that are useful, interesting or just a good place to go back to now and again. We want searching the web to be a shared experience, where real people tell other real people about the great things that are out there. So if you are aware of, or have developed a great site, then tell us about it. Submit it to our directory or blog about it. (We call it TLogging). If you find a great link in Tenuous Links then click to the little heart symbol near it and add it to your online favourites.

At present, the common way to find a website is via a search engine. We aim to change all that, well at least, for a few discerning users. To us it’s not all about algorithms, search engine optimisation (SEO), meta tags, page rank and blah blah blah… We take another tack. We look at the sites, see if they’re any good and worth visiting, and if so manually rate them on five key factors of aesthetic, usability, speed, quality of service and originality. It’s a manual process and sometimes we get it wrong, but hey, who’s perfect?

I guess it could be said that we’re heading in the other direction. We’re swimmers against the tide of technology. We’re the gold prospectors heading east, the pioneers of hot fusion, the alchemists turning gold into lead [mmm?]. May be we’re wrong, may be we’ll end up washed up on the rocks of cyberdom, but remember this nobody ever mentions that Edmund Percival Hillary and Tenzing Norgay were also the first to climb down from the top of Mount Everest…. and coming down is probably harder. What’s that got to do with anything? Well, it’s just another way of thinking about things.

Since it's humble start in 2002 as a clunky website directory, Tenuous Links has developed into a fully-featured web portal with a plethora of functionality, that we are constantly adding to. Our idea is to develop a community of people who want eke out the very best of Sir Tim Berners-Lee great creation. We can’t do that without you, so please add a website, write a blog (TLog), do some microblogging using TLitter, or tenuously link to someone else and follow their site adding, TLogging and TLittering.
